Redefining Lifelong Learning
Building a global alliance of colleges and universities offering midlife transition programs
The Nexel Collaborative believes that higher education should embrace students at every age, from ‘fresh out of high school’ to individuals in midlife and beyond. We provide networking opportunities and resources to promote the successful development of college-level programs designed specifically for adults to prepare and thrive in the next stage in their long life journey.
Nexel member programs motivate their participants to:
• Renew their purpose (take classes, rediscover meaning and/or direction at a crucial transition stage in life)
• Develop new friendships (build social connections, bond within cohort groups)
• Prioritize wellness (for a healthier, longer lifespan)
• Engage across generations (both in and out of the classroom)
• Contribute to the community (give back, be useful, make an impact).
The Nexel helps academic leaders consider which program elements and model might work best for their institution, and support them as they launch. Colleagues are eager to brainstorm, share best practices, resources and moral support. Learn more about how to participate in this innovative new direction in higher education.
At this critical juncture in the life journey, higher education can play an important role in contributing to the health and wellness of an aging society.
